TheMentalCage

When I look at Nigerians, I see a country of people who were never taught to question authority, who were trained with an inability to tolerate the discomfort that comes with disagreement. There’s an overwhelming mental cage, questioning authority doesn’t feel just risky but somehow wrong and I will tell you where it started from.

It starts from the family, the home, a child questions an elder, that child is hushed, almost beaten even if that child might be right.

The same child enters into the education system, that same culture is in the system, brought to them by their teachers.

This is taken into the religious houses, cannot question your spiritual leaders and teachers.

This is taken into the workplace, cannot question your leads.

This is why you have people who cannot fight for social justice, people who stand idly by while another human is hurt.

This is why you have people who swallow everything a leader says
